Sunday Morning Poetry Moment

by Jody Coughlin

I am not your lunchbox.
I am not your tree.
I am not your shady place.
Do not depend on me.

If you sift through sands of time
You won't find me there.
You won't find me on a cloud.
In a dream.
Nor a lair.

Who cares?

You won't find me in the night.
Not on dark paths.
Not in the window.
Not after a bath.

You will not find me waiting.
You will not find me wanting.

You will not encounter me on the planes of the Navajo warrior.

You will not find me in the trill of a mermaid's song.

You will not find me.
You will not find me.

Hear.

     Beware.

You will not find me.

You will not find me anywhere.
